It was reported that last week, HDIC received a report that a meat seller in Hanyang Taohuadao Vegetable Market placed unclear liquid into meat stuffing – making bad meat look fresh.
This caused HDIC to send staff to the market where they discovered a bottle of edible red pigment from the seller under question.
They also found a bottle with brown liquid which, which later proved to be formaldehyde and methanol, both of which can cause cancer or malformation.
Reports state that the seller used both the red pigment and the brown liquid to make bad meat appear fresh.
Further investigation
HDIC has stated that it would carry out further investigations on the case.
