The European Union is continuing negotiations with Russia to have it lift restrictions on EU meat processors.

Currently, a number of Swedish, French, and German meat-packing plants are prohibited from selling meat in Russia, due to their supposed disparity to Russian standards.
 
According to official sources at the State Administration for Supervision of Food Sweden (SASFS), Russia's requirements are different from European and those processors that were rejected by Russia had been previously approved by European  authorities.
 
In order to meet the EU requirements, all processors are required to have an effective system of product quality control, however Russia insists on inspections of each meat batch.
 
Another disagreement between the EU and Russia is the way of discovering of mad cow disease in old cattle. "At present, this problem is discussed at the European level," said Anna Bradenmark, an official representative of SASFS.
