EDS uses InRule for Belgian food safety system 03 Jun 2009
Belgium's Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) sought to modernize its livestock tracking and monitoring system.
EDS, an HP company, delivered a centralized, integrated Web solution that provides a complete picture of animal health through every stage of the food chain.
The system uses InRule, the premier .NET business rule solution, for automating and updating frequently changing decision logic quickly and easily.
The application, called Beltrace, monitors meat safety, animal health and epidemics at different stages of the food chain and helps ensure compliance with food safety laws. A phased production rollout of Beltrace began in 2007 and the system has been fully operational for about three months.
Beltrace at a glance:
- Incorporates approximately 50,000 InRule-powered workflows that include orders, inspections, treatment and animal movement notifications, etc.
- The number of InRule-enabled policy files executed daily averages 60,000 - 90,000
- Beltrace supports over 10,000 named users, including personnel from the food agency, cattle federal agencies, city-communities, veterinaries, transporters, cattle markets, cattle dealers
- In the last few months Beltrace has been rolled out to 5000 farmers, with more planned
- An average of 1000 to 1400 users access Beltrace each day
