World Pork Expo to go ahead as scheduled 05 May 2009
The National Pork Producers Council's World Pork Expo will go on as scheduled June 3-5, 2009, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
• NPPC has no plans to change the event in reaction to the recent influenza outbreak.
• The World Pork Expo Junior National and World Pork Expo Breed Show and Sale will be held as planned during the show. Show organizers will continue to follow strict biosecurity animal health protocols as standard operating procedure, just as they do every year.
• The H1N1 virus responsible for the outbreak was incorrectly termed "swine flu" and has no connection to hogs or the pork industry in the U.S. or anywhere in the world. In fact, the World Animal Health body reports the virus has not been isolated in any animals to date.
