Multivac: Thermoformer 14 Aug 2009

With the R 245 model, Multivac presents a variable thermoformer with medium sized capacities.
With its open IPC control system, the machine works with all kinds of modules - for infeed and discharge, monitoring, metering, weighing, labeling or cutting - so it can be integrated well into fully automatic production lines.

Packaging sizes
A wide spectrum of packaging sizes and materials as well as package types can be processed on the machine. The spectrum ranges from vacuum packaging to protective gas packaging using both rigid and flexible film materials. The machine is suitable for packaging food products as well as medical products and industrial goods.

Cleaning
Applicable hygiene requirements include German industrial standard DIN EN 1672-2, European standard ISO 14159 or the related requirements of US standard NSF/ANSI/3-A 14159, for example. Key requirements set by these standards include the ability to clean down to a microbiological level, easy access for inspection, maintenance and cleaning, sealed cavities and the avoidance of sealed cavities and dead spaces, and design measures to prevent the accumulation of liquids.

Because, according to the standards listed, cleaning systems must be provided for both the outside and the inside of the machinery, Multivac developers have specifically designed the components in the exposed spray zone such that the transport chain, the lifting units, mechanical assemblies, motors, valves and cables can be cleaned without carrying out disassembly procedures.

With CIP system by request
The entire R 245 can be washed down. Contaminants and cleaning fluids drip off of the smooth, sloping surfaces. The removable covers and panels open toward the outside and wet cleaning can continue inside.

By request, the R 245 model can also be equipped with a CIP system ("Cleaning in Place"). This system allows an automated chemical cleaning of internal components such as the transport chain and chain guide profile. Control and documentation of the cleaning process is an integral part of the machine control system in this case. This also provides traceability of the processes as required by regulatory authorities such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
