Industry experts say a UK parliamentary report conclusions are off the mark when stating that the food packaging industry is too secretive about advances in nanotechnology.
Packaging sector questions nanotech criticism

Rather than any attempt by the industry to conceal research for fear of a public backlash, it’s the high cost of nanotechnology for the slower use of the technology in the packaging sector.  Industry analysts point out that the biggest pressure currently in packaging is cutting, not increasing costs.

The recent report from the UK’s House of Lords Science and Technology Committee warned that reluctance by the food industry as a whole to communicate openly on nanotechnology was in danger of incurring a public backlash similar to that which occurred against genetically modified (GM) foods.

A recent report from iRAP forecast the global nano-packaging market would to climb from US$4.13bn in 2008 to US$7.3bn by 2014, with an average annual growth rate of 11.65 percent.
