In 2009, Finland produced a total of approximately 384 thousand tonnes of meat, which is 4% lower than the year before.

By Evgen Vorotnikov
This decrease resulted from lower production of pork meat (down by 5% to 206 thousand tonnes) and poultry (down 6% to 95 thousand tonnes).
Beef production in Finland last year increased by 1% to just over 81 thousand tonnes. In 2009, approximately 267 thousand of cattle were slaughtered in Finland which is slightly more than in 2008. Beef production prices rose for fifth consecutive year.
In 2009 Finnish producers received an average of EUR 284/100 kg for the meat from young cattle, EUR229/100 kg for meat from heifers and EUR 171/100 kg for the meat from cows.
In comparison with 2008, prices for cow meat rose by 4%, while for young cattle and heifers by an average of 1-2%. In 2009, beef production prices in Finland were the highest in the last nine years.
