John Morrell’s new 'Off the Bone' flavours 31 Oct 2008

Sales of thick-sliced lunchmeats have increased to over $16 million.
The increase is from just $1 million this past year, according to Information Resources Inc.

Two new flavours
Due to this increase, John Morrell, a Smithfield Foods subsidiary, has added two new flavours to its Off the Bone product line of thick-sliced lunchmeats – Golden Smoked Turkey Breast and Brown Sugar Ham.

According to recent IRI data, the smoked turkey category is second in dollar sales (30.4%) only to the oven roasted category (47.5%).

Brown sugar ham is the third most popular, representing 7.1% in dollar sales, following smoked ham (49.2%) and honey ham (29.3%).

"We examined industry-wide market research from a knowledgeable source, IRI, to see how we could expand Off the Bone into delicious new areas. Now we’re proud to offer the top two turkey varieties and top three ham categories," said John Pauley, John Morrell executive vice president.
