Abattoir workers face reduced shifts in Australia 13 Oct 2009

Across Australia, some abattoir employees are currently facing shift cuts.
Teys Group, one of the largest meat processing companies in Australia, has stated that the main reason for the shift cuts is the increasing dollar.

Geoff Teys, Director of Teys Group said that Central Queensland plants are planning to operate four days this week. "It means we will be restricted on the price we can pay for livestock until we can get the meat price up. The meat price is working its way up but not as quickly as what the dollar is working up." he said.
