Agriprocessors - manager arrested and charged 04 Nov 2008

Sholom Rubashkin, a former manager with Agriprocessors, Inc., a meat slaughterer and processor in Postville, Iowa, also the son of the firm’s owner Abraham Rubashkin, was arrested.
According to reports, Rubashkin has been charged with conspiracy to harbour undocumented immigrants for financial gain as well as document fraud and identity theft.
 
Arrest follows former employee guilty plea
Rubashkin’s arrest took place a day after Laura Louise Althouse, 38, a former employee in the Agriprocessors human resources department, pleaded guilty in federal court to a count of conspiracy to harbour illegal aliens and one count of aggravated identity theft.
 
Documents filed in federal court, have stated that Althouse conspired with others to harbour illegal aliens at the Agriprocessors plant in Postville.
 
Private financial gain
According to thedocuments, Althouse harboured the illegal aliens for private financial gain. The information also stated that Althouse made use, without lawful authority, a resident alien number that was assigned to another person in committing the harbouring offense.
 
In prison and fined
Althouse currently faces a minimum of two years and a maximum of 12 years in prison as well as a $500,000 fine.
 
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) agents raided the Agriprocessors facility on 12 May this year, and 389 people were arrested. The raid was the largest single-site immigration raid in US history.
