Harvey Beef workers voted against a proposed agreement under which the pay of over 100 employees would be cut by up to 20%.

Harvey Beef, the state's biggest beef processor proposed the new agreement last week, in order to deal with the global economic downturn. However, 55% of the abattoir's employees voted against the agreement.
 
Pay reductions essential
Danika Mullins, the company spokeswoman has stated that the pay reductions are necessary if the company is to survive.
 
Shareholders – future decisions
"The results of the vote are in the hands of the shareholders with the people that own the company and any future decisions that are made about the company will be made by them. The results of the vote are now with the shareholders. Senior management is very concerned that time is running out for Harvey Beef and that these losses cannot be sustained indefinitely," stated Mullins.
