Australia: Cargill exports beef - tracking system at abattoir 28 Apr 2009

Cargill Beef in Wagga Wagga in NSW is to restart exports to the United States and Japan.
The exports can resume as a result of its licence that has been reinstated.

Suspended licence
Cargill’s licence was suspended earlier this month, following E-coli that was found in a small number of containers that were headed for the overseas market.

Tracking meat from abattoir
Andrew Macpherson, Cargill Beef general manager, has said that it has improved the system of tracking meat from the abattoir, and the incident won't occur again.

"AQIS is comfortable that those processes are now more robust and rigorous and hence the re-establishment of our licence. I think what it does show is the robustness of Australia's food safety processes and controls," Macpherson said.
