Australia: Finding jobs for sacked abattoir workers 16 Mar 2009
Terry Redman, the Minister for Agriculture was in Harvey to meet shire and union representatives about the lay off of 160 abattoir workers.
The workers were told by Harvey Beef that they no longer have a job. Harvey Beef will not comment on whether there will be more job cuts.
Jobs at other abattoirs
Redman has stated that retrenched workers may have possibilities of finding work at other abattoirs.
Redman has stated that retrenched workers may have possibilities of finding work at other abattoirs.
"They've been looking for employees at Katanning for sometime so there may well be opportunities I guess for people who are wanting to up and move to another town. It might be a challenge for some, but I think we have to consider all those options in this environment.
I think it's appropriate to put that in front of the workers as well," added Redman.
