Australia: Workers lose abattoir jobs in restructure 28 Sep 2009

In southern Darling Downs, Queensland an abattoir has been reported to have slashed 18 jobs.
According to a report by ABC Rural, The Leitch Pastoral Group stated that the job loss at Killarney comes due to a restructure.

 

Difficult to be competitive
"We've come under considerable pressure from the sheep market, the mutton market into the southern markets has put a lot of pressure on us, and it's been very difficult to be competitive in that market," he says.
 
According to a report, workers have been offered work in other parts of the company.
