Malta abattoir to reach EU standards 04 Jun 2009

Fresh meat leaving the Marsa abattoir will be transported in refrigerated vans, according to a report by Times of Malta.
This has been reported to take place as from next month, Resources Minister George Pullicino said.

Despite the fact that meat is already transported in cold vans, as from June 15 this will be the case for all meat.

Meeting EU standards
The action for all meat being transported in refrigerated vans is one of the various measures to ensure that Malta’s abattoir reaches EU standards. Mr Pullicino said that while the government had already invested €2 million in upping standards, the workers’ daily practices played an important role.

Best quality meat
This will mainly make clients aware that the meat they eat is of the best possibly quality.

For this reason good hygiene should practices should start at the farm and carry on at the abattoir until it reaches customers.
