US acknowledges S Korea as FMD free
According to a report by yonhapnews.co.kr, this announcement came recently following a ban on South Korean pork and beef which has been set in place since March 2000.

FMD prone animals
In 2000, the ban was implemented by the US after a report of a suspected outbreak of FMD in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province. The ban halted imports of FMD prone animals and derived products.

Currently, South Korea is still under scrutiny as its livestock sanitation is yet to be inspected, which according to the report should prove equal to that of the US.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the US Department of Agriculture declared South Korea free of FMD and cattle plague.
